Pride is preoccupation with self, regardless of what
form it takes. Often we don't even recognize when we're proud.
God says we're proud whenever we go through our day without
considering the interests of other people! What is our
mind-set on days when we pursue only our own interests?
Subconsciously, we consider ourselves more important than everyone
else. God therefore commands us to humble ourselves.
In humility consider others more important than yourselves.
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but
also to the interests of others.
--Philippians 2:3-4
Discovering The Secret of Life
When I seek only my own happiness and fulfillment, I find
misery instead. It's impossible to find happiness by living for
myself because I was not designed to live for myself. However,
when I go through my day purposefully counting others as more
important than myself, tremendous joy fills me, and I become
valuable for God to use. When I devote myself to helping others, I
discover the secret of life! "When you lose your life for My
sake," Jesus said, "you will find it."
The Mind-set of a Servant
If Jesus had looked only to His own interests, He would never
have gone to the cross. But He looked to our interests because He
counted us as more important than Himself. Jesus did not suddenly
adopt this perspective on the day He was crucified. He spent every
day counting others as more important than Himself.
Have the same mind in you which was also in Christ Jesus.
